The 2nd Annual write-athon

So its that time of year again. December 31^st, new years eve the busiest night of my year. You see it all began last year when I desperately wanted to finish the Mountain King at the stroke of midnight new ears eve/day, it didn’t happen I ended up writing till about 1am but I managed to write over 5,000 words. This year I’m going to try and break that record. And of course watch some Simpsons (the Simpsons are an integral part of my process as I’ve seen all the episodes so many times I can listen to it write and look up in time for the funny sight gags

So I’ll post when I finish my session how many words I managed this year.

So Victory Churches International (the church group that I attend) has called for a 40 day worldwide fast from the 2nd of Jan to the 10th of February. After seeking God on this, I have come to the following conclusion about what I am going to fast.

I will be fasting all pork products, all sweets, chocolates, biscuits, cakes, all carbonated drinks (this one will be hard) TV, Movies, computer games, and the internet for non-work stuff, this means that I will not be browsing any of the forums I normally do, I will not be checking my facebook. The only way to contact me is to phone me, or to email me, or to comment on this blog.

it seems extreme what I am fasting, and in many ways it is, but it is time for Christians to stop being wimps about it, its time (at least for me) to come to a place where we are willing to put everything away and focus on God completely if only for a short period of time. This will be a time of spiritual growth, of emotional growth, it will be a time when I will overcome things in my life that I am not happy about and that I know God is not happy about either.

So here I am watching a movie and suddenly out of nowhere BAM a sex scene, it has no relevance to the story, other then to maybe make us think, right these guys have sex. It does not serve the plot and to be quite frank is just boring. It’s all so pointless.

Why do people who make decent movies put this crud in with it?

Surely in today’s society if someone wants to see some breasts or a person’s ass they can find it anywhere else.

I have this feeling that we are thought to be fools by these guys in big offices with more money then sense, who are so out of touch with the modern society and the everyday person that they wouldn’t know an ordinary person if they came up and shook their hands.

Do they really think that just because it has a sex scene or some breasts in it that we will go flocking to the movie?

It’s really quite sad that we like mindless animals we all flock to them because it’s the only thing going.

I say enough is enough its time we took back the movies, its time to show these big companies that we couldn’t care less about sex in movies.

Though of course I could be wrong, maybe it’s just me who is fed up with it.

WARNING SPOILERS!!!!

So I’ve now seen I Am Legend twice, the first time I watched it, it was purely for the enjoyment of seeing a new film. The second time, I soaked in more of what the film has hidden behind its seemingly worldly story. This is of course all my own interpretation of this work of art, and as such I’m entitled to be completely wrong in guessing what the artists were going for.

First thing I want to say is something I noticed the first time round, Will Smith captures a female “dark seeker” and after doing so the male exposes himself to sunlight, now the character puts this down to completely losing all touch with its humanity, but I saw it in a different light. This is my theory about that and I will back up some of my idea with evidence of course.

I believe that the woman was the mate/partner of the male dark seeker, and that he was a de facto leader among the dark seekers. Look at the way he controls them when they attack Smith in his lab. Also I think that they were more intelligent than Smith’s character gave them credit for, they used Smith’s own trap idea against him.

Smith simply messed with the wrong dark seeker and that led to them moving Fred and him almost getting killed, and Sam being infected.

Now into the Christian stuff. This movie in my opinion is all about God helping man fix a problem that man made. There is a huge Christ analogy with Smith’s character sacrificing his life in order to secure the salvation (from the KV mutation).

The film has some great foreshadowing with the use of the butterfly, it’s a constant throughout the entire movie and it’s not until we see the tattoo on Anna’s neck. The fact that God (in her opinion) told her to turn on the radio in order for her to hear Smith’s broadcast, and to be there for when Smith needed her to save his life, the fact that she knew without a doubt that it was God who was telling her this, and that there was a survivors colony that she needed to get to; leads me to think that the makers of this movie have a strong spiritual side to them.

And the last thing I noticed that I thought was a very nice touch, is the movie is all about (this is of course an underlying plot) Smith’s character finding his faith in God again after the tragic death of his family. It is no accident that the last thing that Smith and his family did was pray to God.

All in all this is one of the best movies to come out of Hollywood (in terms of spiritual content) for a very long time, and I would recommend that you all go and see it at the cinema if you haven’t already, or buy it on DVD when it comes out. I know it will be a part of my collection as soon as it’s available.
