The Dark Knight

Comment first! »

Ok firstly I’m going to warn you that this post may contain spoilers but no more than anyone who knows the batman universe (or has seen the batman movies) will have already known. And this will not deal with the technical side or acting of the movie, this is purely the story, and idea behind the movie.

Now I want to say I both love and hate this movie. I can tell you why at least partly, I love it for everything technical, every shot was great. I hate it because it has no hope.

None at all, it is aptly named the dark knight, for it is truly dark and unrelenting.

I sat at the end of the movie watching the credits go by and I had this sadness deep in the pit of me, something so deep that most people would not even notice it.

There is no hope because the movie is about men, and there is no hope in humanity. Our very nature is to preserve ourselves and who cares about everyone else, it is only those who strive to reach beyond their nature that can really look to others instead of themselves, don’t believe me? Go look on the news, tell me how many bad and evil things are on it, look on the internet, look into history. The world is not a good place, it is flawed and evil and getting worse day by day but we carry on as if everything is all right, trying to fool ourselves into buying our own con.

I repeat there is no hope in humanity, if there is no hope in humanity are we not doomed?

Yes, we deserve to be doomed, even I do, but we have this one glimmer of hope, not in man but in Christ, in God, in the creator of everything the one who formed us in our mothers womb, the one who breathed his life into us, who can give us true life not just this pale imitation we have on earth.

We can make a difference on the earth and we should, we should do everythign that is within our power to help those who need it, but our power is not enough, we don’t have the power to chance the world back to the way it should be. To the way it was designed to be.

even the best of men are fallen, and can fall even further into the depths.

I don’t mean to be morbid, or to scare you, but we have to face the sad truth, films like the Dark Knight are hitting too close to home.

The world is changing, are you going to be an agent of change or are you going to sit passively by while the world crumbles?

I leave you as always with peace and love

Tale about mixed signals

Comment first! »

Ok Well in my browsing of news sites I found the following article

Net firms in music piracy deal

Now Virgin who are upgrading there services to a higher speed and use the advertising of download a music track every 4 seconds are sending a mixed signal here because I just did the math and for soemone to legally download a music track every 4 seconds it would cost £511920 a month! And that is on top of the internet bill (price of track figured at 0.79) now does Virgin think its customer have that kind of money or are they encouraging copyright infringement with one hand and acting against it with the other?

Seriously guys please make up your mind what you want to do then let us know :D

The BPI has gotten what it wanted for now but I suspect that it’s demands will not achieve what it is looking for if 6.5 million is the figure of “illegal file shares” of music and we take a conservative 1% of those being people who download to try and then buy if they like then  we’re looking at 65,000 tracks or almost £52,000

We’ll see what happens

Dr Horrible- finished and Evil Inc

Add to the Discussion (3) »

Wow, is all I can say, it was amazing, totally totally amazing. It’s so Whedon, it has everything that you could want for.

My only problem with it is that now if I ever do Evil Inc people are going to think I copied some of my ideas from Dr Horrible, despite the fact that I wrote the first 3 scripts  2 years ago. I’ve been thinking about developing the scripts into a 25-30 minute pilot and trying to get an agent for it so I can submit it to the BBC or other british sitcom makers.

Despite everything that happened with Evil Inc it still is one of my favorite ideas, I loved the concept when I came up with it, and I still do, I know it could work as a show at least for a few seasons.

I came across the tape from the filming the other day and was tempted to burn it lol, it taught me alot about how not to do a shoot, and to always make sure your cameraman knows what he is doing… never make that mistake twice.

I thought Sam had a few more months of life in him, but today the screen has been really bad. So I have the feeling he’s not long left to this world.

SO this leaves me without a computer… A scary scary thought.

Dr Horribles Sing Along Blog

Ok so Dr Horribles Sing Along Blog is amazing, it’s everything I hoped for and more. It’s funny, and interesting and as always has amazing camera work . I feel like such a geek for watching it as much as I can to dissect the shots but i should really give up on trying not to act geeky all the time :D

Felicia day is one of the most beautiful women period. She has this something about her, it’s almost unsuspecting, she reminds me of oh so many people who I consider to be good friends. I think that’s why I see her in an interesting light, there is certainly something about her.

Neil Patrick Harris is funny, probably one of the funniest guys around at the moment, his facial control is pretty darn good and over the top which is quite perfect for the characters that he gets. His performance has been flawless, I can;t wait to see him in more things.

Nathan Fillion , I’ve never wanted to punch him in the face except for in his role as captain hammer corporate tool (yes he so acts like that is his full super hero name) he does a great job, but we all knew he would. it’s hard of course to not see the captain when I look at him though. ~sigh~ I miss Firefly

anyway go watch it and let me know what you think (hint hint nudge nudge)

…when I don’t get comments, I get lazy, cus i figure well if no one is reading this then I can get away with not writing something.

You see my days can get pretty busy between appointments with nurses, doctors, jobcentres etc my work with the church, which is ever increasing, and writing on my novels (when I actually have the time to sit down and write, and I’m not worn out from the day)  it sometimes seems like I don’t have any time anymore, I suppose I’m making up for being unable to do pretty much anything for over a year. But its still frustrating, I hate all the appointments I go because i feel obligated, and sometimes they are useful, sometimes they feel like they are just a drain on my time, but these people helped me get better so i feel an obligation to them.

its strange really, what at one point in time is vital can quickly become a nuisance .

anyway enough of my ranting, I’m going to sit back watch a movie and chill.

Peace and love

The Proof is in the pudding

ok so not really but…

the proofs arrived today. got a bit of work to do on the book before it can be given final approval.Ok the facts and figuresThis is a good news bad news kind of situation, because of the weak dollar versus the pound the cost of the oversized paperback of The Mountain King is going to be
£6 +P&P
or
$11 +P&P

This means that the oversized paperback is about what you would pay for a normal paperback in the UK, and a little less (even with shipping) than the normal cost of an oversized paperback

seeing as the price of the american one is deerer than I would like I’ve decided to make this offer, and I wasn’t going to do this because of cost but I found a way of doing it cheaper if we get enough orders.
If we get enough orders the hardcover (with dustjacket) copy of The Mountain King will cost
£13 + P&P
or
$24 + P&P
but as I said the orders have to be high enough.

THe details of the book.
no matter what format it will be 6×9 130 pages (approx)

as an incentive to pre-order I’m offering the following things as a come on ;)
Exclusive artwork by myself of various parts of Landrea (some unseen in this novel)
A screensaver of the artwork.

If you live inthe UK or the EU I’d be more than happy to sign your copy (though why yuou’d want my autograph i don’t know ) but as I’m not probably even going to touch the ones shipping to the US I’m not going to be able to do that :(
If you run/know of a bookstore that might like to sell some independantly produced novels then feel free to give them my email address. Though I do stress that I’m making very very little money off of the book and so can’t offer a huge discount for bulk order (though I will do my best!)

Ok onto the more fun stuff. Here is another pic of the back cover of the proof, I’ll post a video of me opening the box containing the proofs later when I’ve figured out where on earth my software to rip DVD’s has got to!

You can order the book at http://imaginationstudio.org

Sleep as an olympic sport

Comment first! »

I suck at sleeping, seriously if sleeping was an olympic sport not only would i not make the team, i’d be mocked by all afficianado’s of the sport.

Now I have friends who would be on the team, in fact I’m pretty sure one of my friends is part bear as he managed to sleep for an entire week, but not me.

You see my problem is that I’m always on, it’s hard for meto turn my mind off, I’m always thinking of things, planning, writing, remembering, you name it I can probably say with all certantiy i’ve done it instead of sleep.

This of course affects my life, it leaves me tired all the time, unable to think clearly at all times but when I’m trying to sleep it seems.

If only I could somehow manage to trick my body into thinking that interviews and exams are when I’m trying to sleep I’d not only be one of the most diploma’d man on earth I’d also have the best job.

At least that’s my theory :D

Hancock

Comment first! »

Hancock is not your usual superhero film. In fact it’s quite the opposite; he’s a drunk, angry, and self absorbed man.

And unlike other superhero’s he doesn’t seem to care.

Now I can’t say too much without ruining the film but I can tell you that this movie is worth paying to go and see. Unlike so many Hollywood movies this one had me both laughing and feeling sad for the main character within minutes of each other.

It’s got twists and turns in it that I didn’t see coming (and I tend to see them coming a mile away). Will Smith’s performance is, as always, fantastic. And the supporting cast did a great job as well. This is a movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously at times but is always aware of where it is heading.

As far as superhero films go it’s believable (read no radioactive anything biting, exploding, and/or mutating)

woo i managed to do that in half my target only 150ish words :D go me!
